How relationships are determined
Influence view
Sourced from Wikidata property P737 ("influenced by"). This is crowdsourced from Wikipedia editors — well-documented composers have rich links; obscure composers may have few or none. Not algorithmic: it reflects documented scholarly consensus, not score analysis.
Teacher / Student view
Wikidata property P1066 ("student of"). 99 documented teacher-student pairs within the 210-composer catalog. More reliable than influence — these are documented biographical facts.
Temporal Overlap view
Computed purely from birth and death years. An edge is drawn between any two composers whose lifespans overlap by at least N years (set with the slider). No external data — just math. Shows who was alive at the same time, not necessarily who influenced whom.
Geography Map view
Plots each composer at their birth city on a world map. Coordinates from Wikidata. Click any dot to see composer details.
Node size = number of composers influenced (in Influence mode). Color = broad era, fine-grained movement, or birth century.
